I'm Walking All Over Cancer

Kate Nicholas • Mar 11, 2022

Ten thousand steps a day may not sound like a big deal but when you are going through cancer treatment it feels more like ten thousand miles! But I do love a challenge which is why this March I have joined the Walk All Over Cancer fundraiser for Cancer Research UK.

It was this time last year that I found out that I once again had cancer, after six years in remission. I had already survived stage IV breast cancer once but this time the cancer was more aggressive. I also found the treatment a lot harder and nearly died from an internal haemorrhage following a mastectomy. But thanks to the wonderful NHS and the goodness of God, I am once again in remission. I still have one more surgery to go and will be on bio-targeted treatments until August in a bid to prevent another recurrence, but I am getting stronger day by day.

I have been very blessed but I am far from alone in facing this challenge. One in two of us will get cancer in our lifetime, and we can all play a part to support the research that saves lives - and will hopefully one day make this dreadful condition a thing of the past.

So this March I am trying to get to the point where I can walk 10,000 steps a day in aid of Cancer Research UK. It is proving a bit harder than I thought but, so far, I am averaging 9,068 steps a day and have reached the 10,000 target five times in the last eleven days. I am getting stronger day by day and feel confident that by the last week I will be able to manage a consistent 10,000 steps a day.

So please do help me Walk All Over Cancer and fund live saving research by making a donation on my fundraising page:

Thank you and God bless you.
