WHERE SHEEP ONCE QUIETLY GRAZED

Daniel Nicholas • Jan 14, 2020

Along the sea grass shore
Chalets bungalows and shacks
Littered like matchboxes, flotsam stranded
Still in their staunch labels of yesteryear
Watching the sullen grey slopping sea.

As a resort it hath a tinselled lustre of a sort
But fay faded is the glory that was Mablethorpe
(who was Mabel once I thought?)
The promenade deserted by all
But wheelchairs
Perambulating bodes;
The still silent funfare's
Unfair Wheel of Fortune
Starkly stalking over all.

No Kubla Khan did this pleasure dome decree.
Did its messiah moment sometime come?
How.. where.. when was it.. ever?
I know that my redeemer liveth
..But where?
